Here I am. This photo was taken a while ago at parent teacher interviews. Since then I have retired from my role as a high school art teacher and have spent time exploring my own painting. Over the last last 20 years there have been waves of various styles in my work. Trees are the subject right now. I use black outline and acrylic opaque colour fields. Separation and saturation of colour are strong attractions. I paint from my imagining inspired by the river and trees. Stories told and lost, sung and forgotten resurface in our human imagination. Despite the desperation and destruction around us, hope and love rise again. I have many questions - maybe my paintings explore those questions.
How does a nature spirit find an image in the 21st century? A modern mythical form from our Canadian wilderness finds its own future from many combined histories - as the river brings together many flowing streams, creeks and tributaries.
